Nafplion was the first capital of Greece and is regarded as the country’s most beautiful city.
About a 2 hour drive from Athens, to the eastern side of the Peloponnes, there are both Old Town and New Town areas.
The Old Town is of Medieval style with elegant mansions and large squares, while on the hill, above the Old Town, is a fortress dating from the Venetian age. There is also a small islet named Bourtzi with a fortress which used to protect the town from naval attacks.
Whether Old Town or New Town, Nafplion has a really wide range of cafes, restaurants, shops and beautiful old buildings.
A visit to Nafplion is not just a summer attraction – this is a wonderful, all-year-round destination.
